Hall County compactor site hours

Every Hall County compactor site keeps the same hours: Monday through Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The sites are for Hall County residents only, and only waste generated in Hall County is accepted. The county posts holiday closures for the landfill, so if you are heading to a compactor site on a holiday, call Hall County Solid Waste at 770-531-6851 first.

What you can bring to a compactor site

Compactor sites are drop-off points for everyday household trash and recycling. Hall County lists these accepted items:

  • Bagged household garbage

  • Corrugated cardboard

  • Newspaper and magazines

  • Bound books

  • Glass bottles and jars, and plastics

  • Tin cans and aluminum cans

  • Used motor oil

  • Clothing and other textiles

What compactor sites won't take

Anything that isn't on the list above has to go somewhere else. The most common items people bring and get turned away with:

  • Furniture, mattresses and box springs: these go to the Hall County Landfill on Oakbrook Drive, where mattresses and box springs cost $10 each on top of the weight of the load.

  • Refrigerators, freezers and other appliances: also landfill items. Units with Freon cost $10 to $12 each there.

  • Roofing shingles: accepted only at the landfill, not at compactor sites or the recycling center.

  • Electronics and scrap metal: the Hall County Recycling Center at 1008 Chestnut Street in Gainesville takes flat-screen TVs, other electronics, scrap metal and batteries.

  • Tires and paint: the landfill takes both for a per-item fee.

Landfill hours, prices and the full list of what it refuses are on our Hall County dump hours and fees guide.

When it won't fit in a bag

Compactor sites are built for the weekly bags. The couch, the old refrigerator, the mattress in the spare room and the pile in the garage all mean loading a truck, driving to Oakbrook Drive before the landfill closes at 4 p.m. on weekdays or 2 p.m. on Saturday, paying by weight and unloading it yourself.

That is the part we do. We are Chandler and Dillon Payne, two brothers from Hall County, and we come to you, do all the lifting, set aside what can be donated and haul the rest. A single bulky item starts at $125, a mattress at $75, a refrigerator or freezer at $110, and a full trailer load starts around $550. See our pricing, furniture and appliance removal or mattress removal, or text photos to 678-224-1606 for a free quote.
