Jackson County compactor sites

Jackson County has two compactor sites, and they take bagged household garbage only, at $1 a bag, cash or check. You unload your own bags. Everything else goes to the transfer station in Jefferson.

  • New Kings Bridge Road: 843 New Kings Bridge Road, Athens, GA 30607 (on the Jackson County side). 706-510-8750.

  • Yarbrough Ridgeway Road: 268 Yarbrough Ridgeway Road, Commerce, GA 30529. 706-614-2585.

Both are open Tuesday through Friday, 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. They are closed Sunday, Monday and every county holiday, including the half days when the transfer station is open.

Recycling days for chemicals, paint and electronics

Keep Jackson County Beautiful holds recycling events twice a year, usually in April and September. They take electronics and old appliances, paint and solvents, antifreeze and motor oil, pesticides and pool chemicals, fluorescent bulbs, batteries, fire extinguishers and propane cylinders. The fall 2026 event was September 19, so the next one should be in the spring. Check the county's Recycling Events page for the date.

Trash pickup in Jackson County

Jackson County does not run curbside pickup. Garbage is pay-as-you-throw: you use the transfer station and compactor sites or hire a private hauler. The county's 2026 recycling fact sheet lists Red Oak Sanitation, Republic Services, Waste Management, Waste Pro, and White Oak Sanitation as haulers working in the county. Some cities contract their own service:

  • Jefferson: Red Oak Sanitation is the city's trash and recycling provider, with weekly cart pickup. Call 678-455-7819.

  • Commerce: The city collects garbage and recycling on Mondays, with carts out by 6 a.m. Since July 1, 2026, the rate is $21.57 a month per roll-away cart. Commerce Public Works also picks up brush and limbs for residential customers.

  • Hoschton: White Oak Sanitation collects for the city. Garbage is $19.50 a month and recycling is $5.50 more. One bulk item a month, like a piece of furniture or a mattress, goes free, but not refrigerators, freezers or construction debris.

  • Nicholson: City trash service runs through Waste Pro. Call City Hall at 706-757-3408 for current rates.

Braselton crosses county lines, so check which county your address is in before you drive to a dump.

What a dump run really costs

For one pickup load, the Jackson County transfer station is cheap. At $75 a ton, a 1,000-pound load is $37.50, plus $4 for each couch or mattress. The math changes when the job is bigger. A garage or house cleanout is several trips, several hours of loading and unloading, and a weekend gone, and the compactor sites only take bagged trash.

That is the work we do. We load everything ourselves, sort out what can be donated, and haul the rest away. A single item starts at $125 and a full trailer load starts around $550. See our pricing or text photos to 678-224-1606 for a free quote. We serve Jefferson, Hoschton, Braselton and nearby towns.
